GNAT-TV Independent Producer Wins at National Video Competition
Each year The Alliance for Community Media (ACM) hosts the Hometown Media Awards recognizing the best in community media programming, this year GNAT-TV, volunteer and Independent Producer Steve Dunning was awarded for his show “Mono” a contemporary poetry show.
Steve Dunning said, “I’ve been making videos on the side at GNAT since 2012 and after a few years of trying to figure out a format that would best suit my skills, I came up with “Mono”, a series of spoken poetry videos. So far I’ve made about 250 segments and I’m proud to have won two national awards in the last three years for this work. Poet Michael Dickman noted “They remind me less of TV and more of short films like something Guy Maddin would make, or really enjoy watching.” I guess that’s the beauty of public access TV, you can make a show that looks like your own kind of television.”
GNAT-TV Executive Director, Tammie Reilly states, “We are honored to play a role in Steve’s creative journey. Steve’s passion and dedication really shine through in his work. We hope his recognition inspires others to explore the creative and technical resources that GNAT-TV offers everyone in our community”.
