DANBY — A two-vehicle collision claimed the life of a 20 year-old Sunderland resident shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday, June 15.

According to the Vermont State Police, the collision occurred at the intersection of Danby Mountain Road and Brook Road in the Town of Danby. It was reported the crash involved three persons, one was trapped within the vehicle and unresponsive. The Danby-Mt. Tabor Fire Department, East Dorset Fire Department, Manchester Rescue Squad, and Wallingford Rescue Squad all responded.

Preliminary investigation determined that Lucas A. Carnelli-Cadete, 19, of  Manchester, Conn.,  was operating the 2004 Ford Taurus on Danby Mountain Road, traveling towards Brook Road, while William P. Secoy, 38, of Danby, was operating a 1995 Ford Ranger truck, traveling south on Brook Road towards Danby Mountain Road. Both vehicles collided within the intersection, causing both vehicles to travel off the roadway and roll-over.

The passenger in the Ford Taurus, Samuael E. Jenks, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Carnelli-Cadete sustained serious injuries and was flown to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center by DHART. Secoy sustained less-serious injuries. He was transported to the Rutland Regional Medical Center by Manchester Rescue where he was treated and released.

The Vermont State Police Crash Reconstruction Team also responded to the scene to process the crash. Any criminal charges which may result from this incident will be filed by the Rutland County State’s Attorney’s Office at the conclusion of the investigation.

At this time, no further information is being released.
