Our piece last week on the possible tax increase in Winhall stemming from a larger than expected number of tuitioned students and a carryover of a previous deficit should have made clear that the school board is asking the town to vote on an article which would allow for an Australian ballot on next year’s agenda and would be a vote on whether or not to give up school choice.
The school is not asking the town to vote on all school matters by Australian ballot. Currently, the only way to give up school choice is by a vote by Australian ballot on town meeting day. This year’s article would simply be a floor vote to allow that vote to take place next year. All school matters will still be conducted by floor vote.
