We’re Hiring – Media Education Coordinator
The Media Education Coordinator plays a key role in supporting GNAT-TV’s mission to connect community and empower people through local independent media. The Media Education Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the success of GNAT-TV’s education and training programs and creating avenues for community engagement.
General responsibilities include: Creating and implementing media training workshops for adults and youth; with a primary focus on youth programming including after school programs, youth media camps and youth focused television productions. Mentoring students and community members through the creation and production of media for distribution on GNAT-TV’s networks. Providing direct technical assistance to community organizations and general public. Producing video content and supporting the organizations development and engagement goals.
The position requires in person work, local travel within GNAT-TV’s service area, and involves a varied and flexible schedule including some weekday afternoons. The position can be structured for part time or full-time employment. Pay is commensurate with experience. The Media Education Coordinator reports to the Executive Director. The ideal candidate must have patience, excellent communication skills, digital media proficiency and ability to learn and teach software and video production systems.

General responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Media Education & Youth Development
- Design, develop, and implement media education initiatives to meet community needs
- Facilitate media education training of community volunteers, youth and nonprofit community organizations
- Teach in person and remote workshops and for youth and adults
- Create and manage youth media making opportunities including after school workshops and summer camps
- Coordinate GNAT-TV ‘s high school and college internship and mentorship programs
- Produce youth centered television content
Community Outreach & Engagement
- Work collaboratively with community constituents to facilitate the production of community-based television programming
- Create and coordinate opportunities for volunteer community producers to produce media
- Develop partnerships with schools and youth focused community organizations
- Work collaboratively with News Project staff to support development of citizen journalists
- Actively participate in the marketing and promotion of GNAT-TV’s media education programs; work collaboratively with GNAT-TV team to produce content that promotes GNAT-TV’s programs and initiatives on social media, email marketing, cable channels and other online outlets
- Perform other duties as assigned such as assisting with GNAT-TV productions when needed
Administrative
- Support GNAT-TV grant writing, outreach and development efforts
- Work collaboratively to design and maintain efficient workflows
- Perform administrative tasks such as: Schedule classes, equipment and facilities as needed for educational programs; Track attendance and completion of course in all classes and workshops. Collect usage data and report on all classes, workshops and activities; Administer surveys and evaluations for program participants; Work with operations coordinator to invoice partner organizations and collect fees as required; Work collaboratively to maintain equipment and troubleshoot equipment failures and document any problems with production and operations staff
Education and/or Work Experience Desired
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required. Equivalent certification or work experience in television, media, film, communications, education or related field
- Teaching or curriculum / program development experience
- Experience working with diverse constituents, teaching and supervising groups of young people
Required Skills
- Ability to use various computer and media production software and hardware including: Mac and Windows OS, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, social media platforms and other digital tools, apps and video and audio production systems including Final Cut Pro X or Adobe Creative Suite
- Ability and desire to learn and teach media skills to a wide variety of individuals and groups including members of the general public, youth, nonprofit organizations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups, individuals, ideas and opinions; commitment to diversity and fairness
- Ability to represent the organization professionally, present information to public entities, donors, and members, and communicate team effort
- Ability to receive feedback and work in a dynamic changing environment
- Lift video production equipment regularly
- Strong commitment to deadlines and deliverables and ability to time manage accordingly and achieve objectives within approved budget allocations

Environment / Working Conditions
- The environment is oriented to public service and subject to frequent work interruptions. Employees may work with continual public and internal contact while adhering to tight timelines
Additional Requirements:
- Use of personal vehicle for business related travel in our area as needed
- Valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and minimum auto insurance
- Pass background check and training as mandatory reporter to state of Vermont
