From the organizers:

On Saturday, May 3, 2025, hundreds of Vermont lawyers will take to the streets of Burlington to deliver a clear and resounding message: Our fundamental freedoms rely on the rule of law.

The Rally for the Rule of Law will begin at noon at the Vermont Superior Court in Burlington, where attorneys from every corner of the state will gather in unity. From there, they will march along Church Street to Rally at the federal courthouse on Elmwood Avenue — a symbolic route that underscores a powerful truth: the survival of American democracy depends on all branches and agents of government following the rule of law.

Over 300 Vermont lawyers have signed a statement condemning the federal administration’s blatant violations of constitutional protections — a growing chorus of legal professionals speaking out against the erosion of civil liberties, due process, and the system of checks and balances at the heart of our democracy.

All members of the public are invited to join in the march and rally at the federal courthouse featuring speakers committed to restoring integrity, accountability, and justice.

The May 3 Rally is not just a legal event — it’s a call to conscience and a declaration: Vermont’s legal community will not stay silent while the rule of law is ignored, institutions are undermined, and federal power is wielded without accountability. Speakers will share accounts of unlawful actions by federal agents: employees wrongfully terminated, departments dismantled without authority, and defiance of court orders — all in violation of constitutional and statutory mandates. These abuses are harming real Vermonters, right now.

Speakers include:

  • Harry Stark, ACLU
  • David Silver, Criminal Defense Attorney
  • Charity Clark, Vermont Attorney General
  • Dawn Seibert, Immigration Attorney
  • Elizabeth Shackelford, columnist and former Foreign Service Career Diplomat

Lawyers will march — shoulder to shoulder with other Vermonters — and rally to defend the Constitution, to uphold federal law, and to stand with those who have been harmed by unchecked and unlawful government actions.
