These Green Mountains – A Vermont Themed Flower Show Highlights The Garden Club Of Manchester’s Talented Members
MANCHESTER,VT- Showcasing the wealth & beauty of Vermont’s resources (both flora & hardscape), is the theme of this year’s Garden Club of Manchester (GCM) Flower Show. After a members opening reception and judging an opening reception for the public will be invited to visit the exhibit on Wednesday, August 5. The event is free, however the Club will accept donations to help underwrite their annual scholarship fund. This year the club awarded a $4,000 scholarship.
According to co-presidents, Nancy Rhodes and Pat Cherry, the Flower Show, (which is presented every other year) is a much loved special event in the Northshire community.
“Our members and visitors always enjoy the different theme we choose for each show. Two years ago we held the show at The Manchester Community Library, so we chose a book theme to go with our location,” said Rhodes.
“This year, we are graciously being hosted by The Marble House Project, a beautiful example of Vermont’s s best natural assets — stone, woodland, flowers, water, barns, great views and more,” said Cherry. Each division will be located in a different area of the property — one that is fitting for that theme. It will be a wonderful opportunity to see the floral exhibits as well as to tour the property. We will also have an education division (this year, it will share information about the Boswell Botany Trail at SVAC, and Saving our Forests). Additionally, our members will enter flowers and more from their own gardens in the Horticulture Division.
“If you haven’t been up to the Marble House Project, it’s one of the hidden treasures of Dorset and a must-see, for locals and visitors!” Added Pat Cherry.
Lisa Welp, chairperson of the Flower Show shared, “We are very excited about this year’s Flower Show. In addition to the localized theme, our GCM members are such talented floral arrangers and artists, we decided to amp-up the competition and present a National Garden Club (NGC) Standard Show.” She explained, “The rules are much more stringent, making the floral arrangements not only extremely creative but highly professional.” Welp added, “In addition to our GCM members, this year we will once again host a youth division highlighting the wonderful work of local students from area schools in grades 3-6.”
This year’s divisions include: photography (featuring photographs of barns, covered bridges, waterways and mountains and local flowers. Competitive Divisions include: Design, Botanical Arts, Horticulture, Youth, Education.
