RUPERT, VT – The Rupert Village Trust invites the community to experience the timeless elegance of afternoon tea at a special fundraiser event on Sunday, June 29, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. This intimate gathering will offer guests an opportunity to savor traditional afternoon tea while supporting the Sheldon Store Project.

The event will feature a carefully curated selection of savories, freshly baked scones, delicious sweets, and premium teas (both regular and decaffeinated). Guests will also discover the rich history of afternoon tea, from its royal origins to its evolution into a modern day tradition enjoyed by all.

“We’re excited to bring this experience to our community,” said Helen Maikisch, the event host. “Afternoon Tea offers the chance to learn about the fascinating history of tea and share a delicious selection of teas and sweets amongst friends.”

The tradition of afternoon tea dates back to 1662, when Catherine of Braganza brought tea culture to England upon marrying King Charles II. The formal afternoon tea service as we know it today was popularized in the 1840s by Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford, who introduced the practice of taking tea and light refreshments between meals.

Tickets for this event are $25 per person, with limited seating to ensure an enjoyable experience. Guests may attend solo or bring companions to share in the afternoon’s traditional atmosphere.

Event Details:

  • Date: Sunday, June 29, 2025

  • Time: 2:00 – 4:00 pm

  • Location: The Sheldon Store, 2824 Route 153, Rupert, VT

  • Cost: $25 per person

Due to limited seating, early registration is strongly recommended. Tickets can be purchased at www.rupertvillagetrust.org/events.

The Rupert Village Trust continues its tradition of bringing unique cultural experiences to Rupert and surrounding communities while supporting its ongoing mission to serve as a gathering place for residents and visitors alike.
