We are happy to announce a new initiative in honor of EMS Week (May 18-24) to help save lives in our community – through a discounted AED purchasing program. This is an excellent opportunity to obtain an AED for your home, business, sport group, or any other public venue.

By partnering with another community non-profit EMS agency in VT, Calex Ambulance Service, we have
special pricing on certified refurbished Zoll AED units for $595 which includes:

• AED unit
• Carrying case
• Defibrillation pads

Bennington Rescue will also supply a brief training on use of the unit, hands-only CPR, and how to administer naloxone for any business, organization, or home participating in this program. This includes a free naloxone response box if you do not have a harm reduction kit for your organization, business, or home. For an additional $50 we will include a Stop The Bleed kit. If you, your organization, or business would like to take advantage of this offer please contact cpr@brsvt.org by May 31, 2025. Payment is required at the time or order, we can invoice and provide receipts upon request. Check or credit card payment options are available.

Frequently Asked Questions

“Is there liability in having an AED?”. No, Vermont Statutes — 18 V.S.A. § 907. Automated external defibrillators.
Provides protections for organizations, business owners, and other locations that own or provide access to an AED under the Good Samaritan Laws. The only thing the location needs to do is maintain the AED, register it (we can help), and replace batteries and pads when they are due for replacement. Source:

“EMS is usually fast, why do we need an AED?” There are 3 things that save lives and often need to be done before EMS arrival…
Stop serious bleeding,
Give naloxone for opioid overdose with slow/no breathing,
Start hands only CPR & apply an AED when someone is unconscious without an obvious pulse.

Brain death or cellular (irreversible) death may occur within 4-6 minutes due to lack of oxygen carried by blood. This is less time than an average ambulance response anywhere in the US, never mind the more rural areas of VT! We rely on community assistance to save more lives!

“Is this only for organizations, businesses, and homes in the Bennington Rescue area (Bennington, Shaftsbury, and Woodford)?” No, with some limitations, we are opening this up to partners like our Regional Emergency Management Committee, managed by our friends at the Bennington County Regional Commission (BCRC), so anywhere in Bennington County plus areas in VT covered by a Bennington County
EMS agency (Winhall, Wilmington, Dover, etc.) can participate in this inaugural purchasing program!

“Our site has an AED but we would like to add naloxone and/or a Stop The Bleed kit, is that possible?” Yes! We have naloxone kits specifically for distribution throughout our regional community and can provide brief training on when and how to use it. For Stop the Bleed, we can secure kits for $50 and provide a similar brief training for you and your family, coworkers, congregants, etc. depending on the location. Please email us at cpr@brsvt.org and let us know what you are looking for.

If you would like to take part in this program or have any questions, please contact cpr@brsvt.org before June 5th! Stay healthy and safe out there!
