GMALL – How Climate Change is Affecting Vermont’s Maple Syrup Industry
(MANCHESTER, VT) Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning (GMALL) is excited to partner with Southern Vermont Arts Center and Smokey House Center to offer this program on the impact of climate change on Vermont’s iconic maple syrup industry. The talk will take place on Thursday, March 13 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm in the Southern Vermont Arts Center’s Arkell Pavilion. Join us to learn about how rising temperatures and shorter sugaring seasons threaten both syrup production and forest health. Walker Cammack, Program Director at Smokey House Center, will share insights into Smokey House Center’s innovative Climate Adaptive Maple Program which will be launched in 2025 and is funded by the USDA Acer Access grant. This new program is pioneering research into climate-resilient forest management and sap extraction techniques. Discover how this vital work aims to safeguard the future of Vermont’s sugarbushes and support producers in adapting to a rapidly changing world. Registration is $22 per person. After the talk, stay for dinner at curATE café, as they will be creating a special cocktail with Smokey House’s maple syrup made in Danby.
