Arlington Memorial High School Names Valedictorian, Salutatorian for Class of 2018

ARLINGTON–Arlington Memorial High School (AMHS) Principal Tim Stewart has announced the valedictorian and salutatorian for the graduating Class of 2018. Jamie Keel received valedictory honors, and Katheryn Berger earned salutatory honors. Keel and Berger will address their classmates during the AMHS Graduation ceremony, Saturday, June 9, at 12 p.m. under the tent on the Arlington Rec Park Werner Soccer Field.
Valedictorian Keel received the University of Vermont’s prestigious Green and Gold Award and plans to study engineering at the university in the fall. Keel has received numerous honors and awards for her academic achievements. She is an AP Scholar, a member of the National Honor Society and a recipient of the Society of Women Engineers Award. Keel has received principal’s honors or high honor’s distinction each marking period throughout her high school career and has earned academic excellence awards for her accomplishments in AP Calculus, AP English and Spanish. She has served as president of the AMHS Student Council for the past two years and is a member of the environmental club, chorus and band. Keel is a three-sport athlete and was named a co-captain of the varsity soccer D-IV state championship team as well as co-captain of the varsity basketball and varsity track & field teams. She received a NIAAA Student-Athlete Scholarship, recognizing her many athletic accomplishments including her first-place finish in the 800-meter race at the 2017 Vermont State Track & Field meet and her Marble Valley League (MVL) Honors for soccer and basketball. She is the daughter of David and Celeste Keel of Sandgate.
Salutatorian Berger is a four-year member of the AMHS Student Council serving as vice president the past two years. She is an AP Scholar, a National Honor Society member, has received principal’s honors or high honor’s distinction each marking period and earned awards for her accomplishments in English and Spanish. A Girl Scout for many years, Berger received the coveted Silver and Bronze awards, the highest honor for Scout Cadets and Scout Juniors respectively. Also through Girls Scouts, she participated in community service projects in Costa Rica and Peru. Locally, Berger volunteers with TOPSoccer, Arlington Youth Soccer, Red Cross and Martha Canfield Library. Berger is a member of the AMHS environmental club, concert band, jazz band and chorus. She is a three-sport athlete competing on the varsity soccer, varsity track & field and varsity basketball teams. Berger was a senior co-captain of the varsity basketball team and a two-year co-captain of the track & field team. She has received MVL basketball honors the past two years and was part of the 2017 AMHS soccer D-IV state championship team. In the fall, Berger will study applied exercise science at the University of New England. She is the daughter of Eric and Elizabeth Berger of Arlington.
