DORSET — Despite some recent rainfall, water usage restrictions remain in effect.

Residents who are served by Dorset’s municipal water system  have been asked since Sept. 18 to limit their usage of water to essential purposes. Prohibited usage includes recharging swimming pools, watering lawns, watering gardens and washing vehicles, according to an announcement posted on the town’s Web site. Conserving water used inside homes and businesses is also encouraged.

A boil water order, put in place on Oct. 12, also remains in effect for drinking water, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation.

According to a letter sent Friday by the Prudential Committee of Dorset Fire District #1, the water level in the reservoir was down 50 inches, but the spring production (our source of water) has started to increase slightly.

Leaking pipes are also being fixed, which should help boost the water supply, the Prudential Committee also stated.

An earlier order which closed down the water system from midnight to 6 a.m. was lifted two weeks ago.

The Prudential Committee of Dorset Fire District #1 also announced will be holding an informational meeting on Monday Nov. 7 at 7  p.m. at the Dorset Fire House.
The purpose of the meeting is to inform residents of the status of the public water system and fire protection, and discuss plans for the future.
