Community Theater Returns to Arlington
Arlington, VT – September 22, 2025 – The Arlington Common is thrilled to announce the debut of its community theater initiative, marking a return to a long and cherished tradition of local performance in Arlington. The inaugural production will be Ken Ludwig’s hilarious backstage farce, Moon Over Buffalo. This is a return to Arlington’s rich tradition of local performance and artistic expression, setting the stage for a new era of arts accessibility and vibrancy in the community.
For generations, Arlington has celebrated a rich tradition of local performance and artistic expression—a history made famous in part by its most celebrated residents. The town’s arts scene was once championed and participated in by literary giant Dorothy Canfield Fisher and illustrator Norman Rockwell, both of whom called Arlington home for many influential years. Rockwell, known for using his Arlington neighbors as models in his iconic Saturday Evening Post covers, was also known to embrace small-town life by acting in community plays. This production of Moon Over Buffalo is a joyful return to those creative roots, extending a legacy that connected residents through storytelling and the stage.
Directed by Tim Rice, Moon Over Buffalo will run for four evening performances in the Arlington Common Performance Hall on October 10, 11, 17, and 18, 2025. To purchase tickets, go to arlingtoncommon.org
Set in 1950s Buffalo, New York, the play follows George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of stage and screen, as they scramble for one last chance at the spotlight. With legendary Hollywood director Frank Capra en route to catch their performance, absolute mayhem erupts—leading to misunderstandings, romantic entanglements, mistaken identities, and all-out physical comedy. This riotous play is a true love letter to the theater.
The revival of community theater is a key part of the Arlington Common’s broader mission to make the arts accessible, inclusive, and vibrant for all members of the Arlington community. This production of Moon Over Buffalo is just one example of the Common’s ongoing commitment to fostering creativity and connection.
