Arlington, VT – The Arlington Common is thrilled to announce the upcoming production of Ken Ludwig’s hilarious backstage farce, Moon Over Buffalo. Directed by Tim Rice, the show will run for four evening performances on October 10, 11, 17, and 18, 2025 at the Arlington Common Performance Hall.

Open auditions for Moon Over Buffalo will take place on Friday, July 11 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, July 12 at 11:00 AM at The Arlington Common’s Performance Hall, located at 3839 Vermont Route 7A in Arlington. The audition will consist of cold readings from the script. All roles are open, and The Arlington Common welcomes diverse actors of all backgrounds and experience levels to audition.

Set in 1950s Buffalo, New York, Moon Over Buffalo follows George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of stage and screen, as they fumble through a last-ditch attempt to regain their spotlight. With Hollywood director Frank Capra en route to catch their performance, mayhem erupts—misunderstandings, romantic entanglements, mistaken identities, and all-out physical comedy collide in this riotous love letter to the theater. The production calls for a cast of eight (4 men, 4 women), with roles ranging from aging divas and romantic leads to nosy relatives and bumbling suitors.

For more information about auditions, contact director Tim Rice at mactjr@comcast.net or visit arlingtoncommon.org.

The Arlington Common’s revival of community theater is part of a broader mission to make the arts accessible, inclusive, and vibrant for all members of the Arlington community. For generations, Arlington has celebrated a rich tradition of local performance and artistic expression. This production of Moon Over Buffalo is a joyful return to those roots—and just one example of the Common’s ongoing commitment to fostering creativity and connection.

As part of that commitment, The Arlington Common will also host a family-friendly puppet show, “The Duke Is Dead,” on July 16. When the mysterious Duke Didi is found unresponsive on the eve of a national gallery exhibition, the audience is invited to untangle the whodunit through this playful, puppet-heavy production by Vermont Suitcase Company. The show runs approximately one hour and is free and open to the public (donations welcome).
