Education Spotlight – Winter Woodland Parade at The Mountain School at Winhall

October 27, 2026

Details

On a sunny fall day, classes from The Mountain School at Winhall took their learning outside of the classroom during the Winter Woodland Parade. Brittany Denny, teacher of arts and STEAM, worked with students to create animal masks. Jamie Maloof, teacher of outdoor education and founder and leader of Outdoor Wilderness and Survival (O.W.L.S), was the mastermind behind the idea. An intentional walk, she said, was a way for students to apply their knowledge about ecosystems through the seasons in a mindful way. It was also a way for kids to wish the animals and plants well through the winter. Working together, the walk brought the school, parents, and nature together.
