MCL – Celebrate Earth Day with a Special Screening of Microplastic Madness
Manchester, VT — In honor of Earth Day, the Manchester Community Library invites the public to a special screening of the award-winning documentary Microplastic Madness on Thursday, April 17th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. This powerful and uplifting film will be followed by a live Q&A session with Eve O. Schaub, author of Year of No Garbage (Skyhorse, 2023).
Microplastic Madness tells the remarkable story of 56 fifth graders from Brooklyn whose journey into environmental activism led to real-world change and the adoption of anti-plastic waste legislation. Through a creative blend of student-led narration, stop-motion animation, and interviews with leading scientists and experts, the film delivers an urgent and inspiring message about the global plastic crisis—and what we can do to fight it.
Following the screening, guests will hear from Eve O. Schaub, whose memoir chronicles her family’s attempt to live for a year without creating garbage. “When I began my journey into Zero-Waste for my book Year of No Garbage, I never knew that it would transform me into an activist,” says Schaub, who is now a passionate advocate with the nonprofit Beyond Plastics.
“There is so much misinformation and greenwashing around the topic of plastic and recycling,” Schaub explains. “This fascinating film gives us the real facts, in the form of an entertaining and inspiring narrative about young kids who set out to change the world.”
This free, family-friendly event is open to the public and promises to be both educational and energizing—perfect for Earth Day celebrations.
