The third of Taconic Music’s Chamber Music Saturdays concerts, “Vibrant Masterpieces,” will take place on July 11 at 7:30pm at the Riley Center for the Arts (143 Seminary Ave., Manchester Village, Vermont). The concert opens with faculty members Heather Braun, violin; Tom Landschoot, cello, and Young Woong Cho, piano bringing Joseph Haydn’s fiery Piano Trio No. 39, “Gypsy” to life.

The concert continues with the acclaimed Indianapolis Quartet (Zachary DePue and Joana Genova, violins; Michael Strauss, viola, and Egor Antonenko, cello) performing Erwin Schulhoff’s 1923 suite, Five Pieces for String Quartet, a lively juxtaposition of formal Baroque structure and 1920s popular dance styles, jazz, and European folk music. After intermission, the quartet is joined by Braun, violist Ariel Rudiakov, Landschoot, and violinist Rose Drucker for Felix Mendelssohn’s String Octet in E-flat Major. Written when the composer was just 16, the octet stands as an astonishingly mature piece that elevates chamber music to a breathtaking, symphonic scale.

On Monday, July 13 at 7pm, the Young Artists from Taconic’s Chamber Music Intensive will take to the Riley Center stage in the final concert of Taconic Music’s 10th Summer Festival. Violinists Atticus Margulis-Ohnuma, Javier Torres Delgado, Belle Wang, and Manxi Xu; violists Keigan Iwanicki and Gregory Moix; cellists Adan Caldera Quintero and Layla Morris; and pianist Benjamin Wien will perform works by Schumann, Debussy, Shostakovich, and Mendelssohn.

In addition to their mainstage concert at the Riley Center, Taconic’s Young Artists will offer a preview of their concert in a special performance at Indigo+Green in Danby, Vermont on Wednesday, July 8 at 7pm. Chamber Music Saturdays concerts are $30 for adults, free for students and kids. Reservations are recommended.
