MANCHESTER>> Green Mountain Academy welcomes multimedia artist Brece Honeycutt to talk about her long-term project, Prismatic Utopia, which explores the practical, temporal, and spiritual uses of color in the Shaker community between 1790 and 1860. The talk will take place on Thursday, September 10 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm in the Southern Vermont Arts Center’s new Van Degna Gallery. Shaker writings carefully documented where color could be used, who applied it, and even the paint formulas themselves. Particular attention is given to Prussian blue and chrome yellow, colors that symbolically linked heaven and utility. This talk suggests that Shaker communities sought to create a physical utopia adorned in color—a true prismatic utopia, where heaven and earth reflect one another. Registration is $20 per person.
