Battenkill Fly Fishing and Arts Festival Celebrates Its 5th Anniversary This Spring
ARLINGTON, VERMONT – The 5th Annual Battenkill Fly Fishing and Arts Festival (Thursday, April 30th, through Saturday, May 2nd) celebrates the rich history of fly fishing, world-class art, and vital conservation efforts surrounding the iconic Battenkill River. Vermont Business Magazine recently highlighted the Battenkill Fly Fishing and Art Festival as a winner in the 2026/27 Vermont Signature Events program.
“We welcome everyone to join us in celebrating the remarkable artists and history of this watershed in the heart of the Green Mountains,” said Bill Bullock, Arlington Common Board Chair and festival organizer. “The festival fosters a community committed to the sustainability of our vital resources, with proceeds supporting the Battenkill Fund and the Arlington Common.”
Vermont’s own Lawson’s Finest Liquids returns as the exclusive beer provider, anchoring the Microbrew Tent alongside local favorites Sauced BBQ and live music on Friday and Saturday.
The festivities begin Thursday evening with a high-energy cocktail party to raise funds for the Battenkill and the Arlington Common. Attendees will enjoy a luxury silent auction and a sneak peek of the new art exhibit, “Mountains, Valleys, and Rivers.”
On Friday, ticketed guests can also tour the legendary Orvis Rod Shop. Other events include the American Museum of Fly Fishing’s Battenkill Bamboo Derby, fishing with VTFlyGals, and tree-planting on the river. At 5 PM, art historian Don Trachte Jr. presents Artists of the Battenkill, exploring the legendary creators who called this valley home.
Saturday is the main event. The Performance Hall will host fascinating presentations on fly-fishing and history from experts and authors, including Orvis legend Tom Rosenbauer, who will share his angling secrets in Prospecting for Trout. The 2nd Annual Battenkill Cup offers 25 participants a chance to compete for the coveted Battenkill Cup Trophy in accuracy and distance. The Fly-Tying Discovery Center will feature celebrated tiers from across the U.S., while the Vendor Village showcases local outfitters, rod makers, and craftspeople. Casting demonstrations and lessons will also be available from Orvis.
Expanding its cultural reach, the festival introduces two exclusive arts workshops led by featured artists. Set against the backdrop of West Arlington’s iconic covered bridge and grange, participants can immerse themselves in watercolor painting and photography.
The festival raises awareness and funds for the Battenkill Fund, supporting initiatives to address human impacts on the river and promote responsible stewardship. Those who cannot attend can still contribute by purchasing raffle tickets for a beautiful oil painting by Douglas David.
