Attorney General Charity Clark released a statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s order yesterday that blocked a new rule by the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) seeking to impose broad requirements on vote-by-mail systems just weeks before the General Election, set for November 3. Attorney General Clark and a coalition of 24 other attorneys general sued to block the rule on August 26 and subsequently secured a preliminary injunction blocking the rule. The Supreme Court’s decision affirms the preliminary injunction.

“Fair and free elections are a cornerstone to democracy,” said Attorney General Clark. “I am grateful that the Supreme Court blocked the Trump Administration’s unlawful attempt to undermine Americans’ access to the ballot. I want to be clear: Vermont’s elections remain safe, secure, and fair. I encourage Vermonters to make a plan to vote, by mail or in person, and I thank the Secretary of State, Town Clerks, and all other election administrators working hard to uphold the integrity of Vermont’s elections.”
