Familes And Freedom: Journeys In The Revolutionary Northeast
Details
At the Manchester Community Library, this presentation examines how the American Revolutionary era and its aftermath shaped the lives of families across the Northeast. Focusing on the experiences of Native American, African-American, and Euro-colonial women, the lecture explores how individuals navigated upheaval, displacement, scarcity, and shifting ideas of freedom and independence.
Drawing from a forthcoming book centered on the stories of Violet Freeman, Ruth Waukeet, and Mary Stiles, the presentation looks at how these women worked to protect their families, communities, and futures while navigating vastly different systems of power and opportunity. It also explores the challenges of uncovering Revolutionary-era histories that exist only partially within traditional written archives.
