Green Mountain Academy is excited to host a visit to The Hall Art Foundation in Reading, Vermont for a private tour. Converted from a former dairy farm, the Hall Art Foundation’s campus of converted galleries consists of a 19th-century stone farmhouse, three barns, as well as a reception center and cafe. The property’s 5 historic buildings make up approximately 6,000 sq. feet of museum-quality exhibition space. The farmhouse and barns sit next to a waterfall on a tributary of the Black River, and are surrounded by approximately 400 acres of pastures, hayfields and extensive woodland. Outdoor sculptures by world-renowned artists are installed throughout the grounds. Exhibitions are held seasonally, from May through November. On view this year is a group show titled A Farewell to the Western World. Borrowing its title from a painting by the acclaimed Romanian artist Adrian Ghenie, A Farewell to the Western World gathers approximately 70 artworks in painting, drawing, sculpture and photography that depict imagery suggestive of global shifts and an irreverence towards systems of established order. By tracing patterns of conflict, power, and sociopolitical upheaval that have concerned artists globally, A Farewell to the Western World attempts to condemn and lay bare the causes and effects of authoritarian regimes, racism and political violence throughout history, prompting a look at our present day and a warning against history repeating itself.

All guests have access to the Cafe Lex where refreshments including sandwiches, salads, baked goods, snacks, bottled beverages, wine and coffee are available for purchase.

The Hall Art Foundation is located at 544 VT Route 106 in Reading, Vermont. Carpool if you like and meet us at the museum a few minutes before 10am. The tour will start promptly.
