 matic skills and political savvy. Their impact on the republic's early yea
 rs is examined through their words and their actions in New York\, Philade
 lphia\, and Washington\, DC. Martha created a role that had no precedent\,
  Abigail brought political insights to supporting her husband\, and Dolley
  Madison created an environment for bipartisanship during a fraught time i
 n the young country's development and influenced future presidential coupl
 es and their contributions to shaping the nation. New Englander\, Jane Pie
 rce\, rose above her personal tragedies to take a stance on an issue that
